Pickr Media is the source for what business to pick: independent rankings of who to choose in a category, and why.

Every business we write about gets a PICKR Rating — a score out of 10 across the five things that decide whether you were glad you picked them. Same scale every time, so you can compare across categories. We are never paid to write about a business, and we never ask one for money. There is nothing to buy here and nothing a company can do to appear on this site. Just the articles.

What the rating measures

30 ptsThe workWas the result right, and did it hold up?

25 ptsReliabilityShowed up, did what they said, fixed problems without being chased.

15 ptsValueA fair price for what you actually got. Not cheapest — worth it.

20 ptsCustomersPublic ratings, weighted by how many people back them.

10 ptsCredentialsLicensing and standing, confirmed on a public register.

We publish all five component scores next to the total, because a 7.8 earned on superb work and patchy communication is a different business from a 7.8 earned by being uniformly decent. The full standard is here.

Why trust a recommendation here

We know these businesses. The scores for the work, reliability and value come from direct experience of what was delivered — not from re-reading the same reviews you can already see.
Every figure is sourced. A licence number, a founding year, a review count: each carries a link to where we got it and the date we checked. If we cannot source it, we do not print it.
Nobody pays. No company can buy a place, a position or a kinder sentence, and no article is shown to a listed business before it goes up.
We say what we do not know. Every write-up carries a line for what we could not verify.
