Custom packaging is a market built on vague quotes. You send artwork, wait a week, and get a number that bears no relation to the one you were given on the phone. The companies worth picking are the ones that tell you the minimum, the lead time and the fees before you commit — so that is what we judged on.

· How we rank · Nobody paid to be here

What actually goes wrong

Three things sink a first packaging order, and none of them are design. The minimum turns out to be 5,000 units when you needed 1,000. The quote grows a setup fee, then a tooling fee, then a plate fee. And the four-week lead time starts counting from artwork approval, not from the day you paid — which nobody tells you until week five.

So the useful question is not who has the nicest website. It is who publishes those three numbers before you are committed, and who still honours them on the reorder.

What we weighted

Quality of the work carries 30 points and reliability 25, because a cheap bag that arrives late and seals badly has cost you a product launch, not a discount. Value is 15 — the all-in number, not the headline unit price. What other customers say is 20, and credentials 10. The full standard is here.

PICKR RatingTop pick

The one we would call first, and the reason is boring: they publish the numbers that other suppliers make you extract. Minimums start at 1,000 units rather than the 5,000 that prices a new brand out. Quotes are all-in — no setup fee, no tooling fee appearing at invoice — and reorders carry no setup fee at all, with artwork held on file for 24 months so a repeat run is fast and cheap. Standard production is 3–5 weeks from artwork approval, stated plainly rather than discovered. The range is wide enough that you are not splitting an order across three suppliers: mylar bags, child-resistant jars and pop tops, glass and tincture bottles, folding cartons and rigid boxes, labels, and sustainable options. U.S.-based, with manufacturing overseas and account management, design and support in the States — which is the trade that keeps the pricing competitive without losing someone to call.

How to use this

Before you accept any custom packaging quote, make the supplier put three things in writing: the minimum order quantity, the all-in price including every setup and tooling charge, and the date the lead time starts counting from. A supplier who will not write those down is telling you something.
