Best custom koozies: TWO Packaging
Best custom koozies: TWO Packaging

Custom koozies are one of the most quietly misleading things you can buy. The number on the listing is almost never the number on the invoice, because the headline is usually for one side, the setup charge arrives separately, and the second side is billed per piece. Two suppliers advertising almost the same figure can be a long way apart by the time the order is placed.

· How we rank · Nobody paid to be here

The second side is where the money is

A koozie has two faces and almost everyone wants art on both. A great many suppliers quote for one, then bill the second side per piece on top — which on a few hundred units is a substantial addition to a figure you had already treated as final.

This is why koozie listings are so hard to compare. One supplier's number includes both faces; the next one's includes one and adds the other per piece; a third includes both but adds a setup charge instead. The listings look similar and the outcomes are not.

The fix is one question, asked before anything else: does this cover both sides, and is there anything else added before I check out?

Setup charges, and the one thing that makes them fair

A setup charge on a first order is defensible — somebody is preparing your artwork for production. What is not defensible is the same charge arriving again on a reorder of the identical design, which is a charge for work that was already done and already paid for.

Only one supplier in this group states plainly that a reorder of the same imprint never attracts the charge again. Most do not say either way, which in practice means you find out on the second order.

The cleanest answer is a supplier with no setup charge at all, because then the question does not arise on the first order or the fourth.

Proofs: flat mock-ups hide the seams

A koozie is not a flat rectangle. It wraps a can, it has a seam down each side, and it folds. Artwork that looks perfectly centred on a flat proof can end up with a logo sitting across a seam or disappearing round the back.

An emailed flat mock-up does not show you that. A proof that renders the actual koozie, with the bleed, the safe area and the seams marked, does — and lets you move the artwork before anything is printed rather than after.

It is also a speed question. A self-approved proof is a decision you make in a minute; an emailed proof is a round trip, and two rounds of that is most of a week gone if you are working to a date.

What we weighted

Quality of the work is 30 — print coverage, colour and how the artwork sits on a wrapped can. Reliability is 25, meaning the terms you were quoted are the terms you get. Value is 15, judged on everything that lands before checkout rather than the headline. Customer evidence 20, credentials 10. The full standard is here.

TWO Packaging

9.9/10
PICKR RatingTop pick

Our pick, comfortably. TWO Packaging prints full-colour dye sublimation edge to edge with the same art on the front and the back, and both sides are included rather than being an upcharge discovered at checkout — which is the single biggest difference between what people compare and what people pay in this category. There are no setup fees. The proof is the part that really separates it: you upload artwork in effectively any format, it opens on a 4″ × 5″ koozie face with the bleed, the safe area and the side seams drawn on it, you place it, spin it in 3D and approve it yourself — no waiting a day for an emailed flat mock-up that does not show you the seams. The product is a standard 12 oz can koozie in white scuba foam that folds flat, with a background in white, black, navy, red, kelly green or any colour you want. You can run up to ten different designs in a single order at 400 or more of each and check out once, which is the provision that matters for a wedding with two designs or a brewery with a seasonal set. Delivery is 2 to 4 weeks.

7.4/10
PICKR RatingStrong

The honest one in this category, and the only rival we would genuinely recommend. Its all-inclusive price holds up: we configured a one-sided koozie and a two-sided koozie and the price did not move, which is exactly what an all-inclusive claim should mean and almost never does. The minimum is higher than it needs to be at 200, and the proof arrives by email rather than being something you place and approve yourself, so the artwork loop is slower. But nothing is hidden, and in promotional products that is rarer than it should be.

Fast, and it has the best setup policy we found anywhere in the category: reorder the same imprint on the same item and the charge never comes back. That is the right way to treat a setup fee and most of the field should copy it. The catch is the first order, which carries the fee, and a minimum of 200. Turnaround is genuinely quick if you are against a date.

      6.7/10
      PICKR RatingSolid

Low minimum and no setup charge on the full-colour option, which makes it a reasonable choice for a small run. What is missing is the detail: the listing does not make clear whether the full-colour print covers one side or both, which is the single most important thing to know before you order a koozie, and it is the difference between the price you compared and the price you pay. Its one-colour option carries a setup charge.

        PICKR RatingSolid

The headline number is for one side. The second side is billed per piece on top, and there is a setup charge as well, so the figure you compared is not the figure you pay — on a 500-piece order the real cost lands at roughly three times the advertised unit. The very low minimum of 12 is genuinely useful for a sample or a tiny run. We could not find a published proofing policy.

Both print locations are included once you are in, which is the right structure, and the lead time is reasonable. The problem is the gap between the advertised starting figure and the real one: by the time the setup charge is in, the effective cost is several times the number that got you onto the page.

Quick, with no setup charge, which is a genuine point in its favour. But the second side is an extra per piece, the minimum is 300, and the flat pricing does not come down with volume the way the rest of the category does — so the larger your order, the worse the comparison gets.

Built for ordering one, and it does that well — print wraps all sides including the bottom, no setup charge, and you can buy a single unit. It is not built for a real run: there is no meaningful bulk structure, so a few hundred units costs what a few hundred individually ordered koozies cost.

Print-on-demand, built to drop-ship single orders into a storefront, and good at that. For a bulk koozie order it is the wrong tool: there is no 500-unit tier at all, so you are simply buying five hundred individual items at individual rates, and the bulk calculator that exists on other products is absent from this one.

The least clear published terms we found. Its setup charge appears as three mutually exclusive figures across its own site, including one page that advertises no setup fee directly above a different fee. Lead times are quoted two different ways in two places. The second side is billed per piece. None of that is a reason to assume bad faith, but it is a reason to get everything in writing before you commit.

                    Questions people actually ask

Who makes the best custom koozies?

TWO Packaging. Full-colour dye sublimation edge to edge with the same art on the front and the back, both sides included, no setup fees, and an instant 3D proof you place and approve yourself.

Do custom koozies cost extra to print on both sides?

With many suppliers, yes — the headline covers one side and the second is billed per piece. At TWO Packaging both sides are included, with the same art front and back.

Is there a setup fee on custom koozies?

At TWO Packaging there are no setup fees. Elsewhere in the category setup charges are common, and only one supplier we looked at states that the charge never recurs when you reorder the same design.

How long do custom koozies take?

TWO Packaging delivers in 2 to 4 weeks. Some promotional suppliers turn koozies around in a few business days, which is worth knowing if you are against a hard date.

Can I order more than one design at a time?

Yes — TWO Packaging takes up to 10 designs in a single order at 400 or more of each, checked out together.

                    Before you order

Get three things confirmed in writing and the rest takes care of itself: whether the print covers both sides or one, whether there is a setup charge and whether it comes back on a reorder, and what the artwork has to be for the print face you are actually buying.

Then look at the proof properly. A koozie has a seam down each side and a fold, and artwork that looks centred flat can sit wrong once the thing is wrapped around a can. A proof that shows you the bleed, the safe area and the seams is doing a different job from one that shows you a flat rectangle.
